Resilient: re-sil-ient … /riˈzilyənt/

Able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.

Synonyms: elastic - springy - flexible

Does ‘resilient’ define you as a person, as an author? I had a dynamic conversation yesterday with an indie author. She explained that her book went through four rewrites before she reached her market and now everyone wants a piece of her.

Resilience is what makes us strong and successful. To be a self-publishing indie author you’re going to need to be resilient. Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” Combine the willingness to change with your entrepreneur spirit and self-publishing strategies, and you’re sure to come out a winner!

Life is full of lessons. Everyone gets knocked down. Those who get back up and learn from the lessons are the champions. Finding and keeping your balance, focusing on the future and staying in motion is what makes the difference. The only thing hold you back from success is not what you are, it’s what you think you’re not.

Resilience is enhanced by having a positive attitude. Keep a great attitude. Remember the ability to succeed comes from within, coupled with your desire and your resilience.

How do you deal with change? What’s one thing you know you can accomplish today that will help your writing move in the direction you want it to go? What have you learned about yourself and your writing skills recently? What makes you feel hopeful and keeps you moving forward?

We’d love to hear from you. Post your feedback. It’s the only way we all grow. Thank you.

Do you consider yourself a hardworking indie writer?

William Zinsser said, “If writing seems hard, it’s because it is hard. It’s one of the hardest things people do.”

Being a self-publishing indie author [SPIA] is hard but one common quality all successful SPIA’s share; they are a bunch of hardworking souls! Their biggest legacy is that they are full of passion, enthusiasm and commitment. Anyone can dabble, but once you add in passion, enthusiasm and commitment to the mix, you’re headed for greatness! Not only will this add to your craft of writing but it adds to your craft of promotion too. Your “spider-senses start to tingle” and you’ll start recognizing opportunities everywhere!

Do you create deadlines for yourself? It has been said, “Writers wither without deadlines.” When do you feel the most alert and creative? Morning, late night; carve out time every day to devote to your writing.

We’d love to hear from you. Post your feedback. It’s the only way we all grow. Thank you.

Have you created your Guerrilla Marketing team?

We’ve all heard the saying before, “No man is an island.” It’s true; we don’t thrive in isolation. I know a few writers that write in isolation, but once that phase is done; we need people. If we’re going to succeed, we need team support. Do you have your team in place? Have you thought about your team?

We talk about self-publishing like it’s a solo sport, a team of one, but it’s not. It is a team sport. A good team consists of people who can help you with your guerrilla marketing strategies, keeping your social media sites updated, proofing and editing before you even publish, and a test group of readers [Hollywood has beta audiences, and will re-film an ending when needed], etc.

Switching gears from writing to marketing takes planning. Have you planned? Are you planning? Have you recruited your team? Do you have a marketing calendar? What about a marketing budget? Are you ready to execute? Does everyone know their roll?  If you are planning on giving your book away, do you have all your free platforms lined up? Don’t forget to max out your bio on all your platforms. We know at Free-ebooks.net that readers check bio’s before downloading books and that more books are download when authors have bio’s completed.

Remember, you’re working in real time and using social media, most of what you’re doing should be free to start, and you should be prepared to change on a dime if it’s not working. Don’t be afraid to refine and improve.

We’d love to hear from you. Tell us how you’re preparing and what else other writers can do and should do to make it easier when launching their marketing campaign. Post your feedback. It’s the only way we all grow. Thank you.

Do you have a marketing plan to reach readers?

Your work doesn’t stop after you write and self-publish. It switches to another gear. Self-publishing is an excellent option for many writers with go-getter attitudes. Is that you? Are you ready for the next stage? Remember book sales only happen if you make them happen!

If you plan on self-publishing, how are you going to make people aware of your book? Ask yourself the following: Do you know your readers? Do you know where they are and how to reach them? Do you have your social media sites set and ready? Have you created a campaign? Do you have your strategies in place? Once you reach your audience, how will you draw them in, make them interested? Do you have a strong call to action? Do you have a support team of friends and family willing to help spread your word and build your buzz? We’ll call this team your Guerrilla Marketing team. This is a short list. Use it as a springboard to build on.

We’d love to hear from you. What other questions should we be asking to build a strong marking plan and team to be a successful self-publishing indie author? Post your feedback. It’s the only way we all grow. Thank you.

Are You A Candidate For Self-Publishing?

Ask yourself before you self-publish. Do you have a positive attitude and are you a go-getter? Do you have proactive personality? Do you have entrepreneur spirit?

We recently have had an author reach out to us looking for an agent, she, or he has completed a series, and now they want an agent to find a publisher. This started a conversation; part of the quest to find an agent is a quest to find someone to give the final approval that yes, your work is good and ready to be published.

What we have found working with indie writers, is that they have an entrepreneur spirit. They write, but they approach their writing from a business stand point, not just ‘art’. They are positive and proactive. They know when to let go and publish. They are willing to take risks, take responsibility, as well as accept the rewards and even failures for publishing their own work. Learn and grow from it, and start the process all over again. All while others still seek an agent and talk about how hard, it is, how they feel they may never get published, and if they do they may never succeed.

Of course, all writers with agents and publishers don’t fit this model. You can, however, apply the 80/20 rule and say that a good 70 to 80% will fit. And out of those many could be successful indie self-publishers if they had a positive attitude, were a go-getter, had a proactive personality and thought like an entrepreneur.

We’d love to hear from you. Post your feedback. It’s the only way we grow. Thank you.
